What is Erb's Palsy?

Erb’s Palsy, also known as Erb-Duchenne Palsy, is a neurological condition caused by injury to the upper brachial plexus nerves (C5 and C6), which control movement and sensation in the shoulder, upper arm, and elbow. The injury commonly occurs during childbirth due to excessive stretching of the baby’s neck and shoulder, although it can also result from trauma in adults.

 

The condition leads to weakness or paralysis of the affected arm, making it difficult to lift the shoulder, bend the elbow, or perform normal arm movements. The severity ranges from temporary nerve stretching to complete nerve rupture.
